Oxford star pips Prince’s professional in innovative evening tournament
Adam Wootton (Oxford Golf Centre) is the new champion of the Topgolf PGA Pairs Pro-Am*, edging his rival Charlie Wilson (Prince’s) by a single point by the end of the evening’s event.
Topgolf takes golf into new territory and new audiences, and proves the game can adapt to modern tastes for entertainment and time out. With bays serviced by hosts to keep the drinks flowing and hot food to hand, and pop music piped around the playing areas, families and groups of any ability can spend 90 minutes seeing and playing golf in a whole new light – day or night time.
The Topgolf Pairs Pro-Am** format of TopPressure, TopBreak and TopGolf is the same one customers play every day. Because of its format, all the pairs could start at the same time and pit their skills against the illuminated Topgolf targets. Wootton took the winner’s cheque for £350 by scoring 394 points to Wilson’s 393, with Topgolf’s own Joe Tinsley trailing in third spot with 373 points.
In the team event, even these impressive individual performances weren’t enough, as Topgolf’s Max Marshall and his partner, 11 year old junior golfer Heidi Man, overwhelmed the opposition with their score of 788 points, 53 more than their nearest rivals from Wentworth, Stuart Boyle and Bailey Hall on 735.
The event attracted a full house of 32 PGA Professionals and their amateur partners from all around the South East. A delighted Wootton said: “Topgolf’s format is a whole new form of entertainment, no matter what the time or weather, or for that matter, ability. The crowds here this evening show Topgolf has got a very successful approach to 21st century golf, and to growing the game.”
Topgolf’s PGA Head Professional Jamie Savory said: “Besides being streamed, the 2019 event once again lit up social media like Twitter and Instagram. Topgolf really is a great family day or night out. Because our format bridges the gap between casual and serious golfers so well with lots of children and families involved, our Pairs Pro-Am continues to be a fantastic success.”
