TYRRELLS WOOD GOLF CLUB IS ‘OPEN’

Everyone is invited, and you might be surprised what you find!

Summer is finally here and Tyrrells Wood Golf Club is celebrating by opening its doors to all comers for its first ever Summer Open Day where visitors can see what this hidden gem has to offer. The Golf Club, which formed nearly 100 years ago, will be challenging golfers and non-golfers of all ages to pick up a club, meet the Tyrrells Wood golfing community and raise some money for local charities along the way. With a timetable of activities throughout the day, this truly is an Open Day, with sessions to suit every age and every ability.

Heading up the Summer Open Day will be Assistant PGA Professional Joanne Taylor, who recently shot to fame in the golfing community by helping T.V. and Heart Radio star Jenni Falconer on her golfing journey from absolute beginner to taking part in the Pro-Am at the European Tour’s Golf Sixes event. Jo, who runs the innovative love.golf programme at Tyrrells Wood, will be on hand at the Open day with help and advice for everyone from the most avid golfer to absolute beginners, making sure they have a great time and get the best out of their day at the club.

General Manager of Tyrrells Wood Golf Club, Robert Shaw, is excited to welcome the local community to the club. He said, “We’re looking forward to showing the local community what a dynamic, welcoming membership we have at Tyrrells Wood. We combine the best of the modern game with a beautiful traditional setting, but most of all, our members are some of the friendliest people you could want to meet. Our Members are from a wide range of backgrounds and they like to spend time relaxing with a beer or a G&T admiring the view over the Surrey Downs as much as they enjoy tackling the golf course. The Summer Open Day is a great chance for people to see that for themselves, try golf for the first time or dust off their clubs, and then have a drink in beautiful surroundings.”

To complement the ‘grown up’ golf activities, the Summer Open Day will also mark the launch of the Tyrrells Tigers programme. This new section is open to 4-10 year olds, starting with a 4-week Summer Camp this August. As Tony once said, it promises to be “grrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!”

With Beginners Taster Sessions, Back to Golf refreshers, Junior Activities and Masterclasses, there will be something for everyone to try, including a fun putting challenge against the Men’s and Ladies’ captains in aid of The Princess Alice Hospice and The Mid Surrey Dementia Trust. Lady Captain Pam Tuke from Ashtead is excited to be involved, “This is a fabulous way for people to see what golf is all about. We have a fantastic academy, a growing women’s section and a beautiful place to relax and have fun. Golf is the new social network and everyone is invited.”

The Summer Open Day starts at Midday on Saturday 13th July, with half hourly sessions running throughout the day. For more details on the timetable of the day visit www.tyrrellswoodgolfclub.com or follow @tyrrellswoodgolfclub on Facebook.
