With the weather set fair and the Puttenham golf course in pristine condition, 92 golfers set off in the fifth annual Puttenham Golf Club PGA South Region Pro-Am sponsored by BOOKS etc, for what proved to be a great day’s golf in the sun.
A brand new Mitsubishi Mirage Car had been put up by Normandy Garage for the fifth successive year as a prize for recording a hole in one at the 176 yard, par 3 18th, and for the first time in the tournaments history 12 handicapper John Uwins (Cranleigh Golf Club) produced a magical shot to “ace” the par 3. John said after his round “I hit a perfectly struck 8 iron that landed at the front of the green and rolled down towards the flag before disappearing into the hole. It was an amazing moment”.
Local PGA Professional Chris Rodgers (Richings Golf Club) won the individual professional event with a three under par round of 68, the only under par round of the day.
The winning team of Richard Beach (Goodwood Golf Club), David Roberts (The Dyke Golf Club), Darren Bartlett (Leckford Golf Club) and team professional Guy Woodman (ProAgenda.com), produced an excellent total score of 17 under par.
