PYRFORD GOLF CLUB
On an extremely wet Sunday afternoon and after qualifying via the Zone matches, then winning through the quarter and semi finals the U18 teams from Cuddington and Foxhills, and the U14 teams from Horne Park and Foxhills gathered at Pyrford Golf Club for the 2019 Rookie League Finals.
The playing format of this Club competition is two pairs of Four Ball Better Ball match play.
Both Finals were started by Surrey Golf Chairman Terry Christy.
The U18’s pairs were first on the course. The first match was won by Foxhills pair, Alexandra Jakins & Abbi Rowlands who beat Cuddington’s Dexter Daly & James Crossett 2&1. In the second match there was a reversal of fortune and the Cuddington pair of Jack Howes and Callum Furmidge beat Foxhills pair Charlotte Benford & Fletcher Rees, 2&1. The draw meant that the first pair from each club would play in a sudden death format starting from the 10th tee. The match couldn’t have been closer and went to the third playoff hole where the team of Alexandra Jakins & Abbi Rowlands secured the win for the second year running for Foxhills.
The U14 final, saw the first Horne Park pair of Benjamin Benetar & Ben Kingsley winning their match 4&3 from Foxhills pair Sean Barnfather and Cody Fernandes and the second Horne Park pair, Oliver Watts and Harrison Brindley beating Jo Gould and James Brash 4&2 from Foxhills to take the U14 Rookie League title for 2019.
All the matches were played in excellent spirit with some super golf on display
After play, the players were treated to a very welcome meal which was followed by the presentation of the cups which were handed out by our Surrey Golf Chairman Terry Christy.
Our thanks to Pyrford Golf Club for their continuous support and special mention to the bar and catering staff for looking after us so well.
Finally congratulations to;
