Following postponement in 2020 due to the 1st Covid-19 lockdown the rearranged Prostate Cancer Screening Day went ahead at Puttenham Golf Club on Saturday 21st May 2022. Testing is recommended for all men over 40 years of age. Early detection of prostate cancer by getting tested means it can be treated and can lead to a 90% survival rate.
This advice led to a constant steam of men arriving for their test throughout the day with 105 blood samples taken in total. The test results showed on the traffic light colour code system that 93 came back green, 4 were amber and 8 were red.
Just goes to show how worthwhile events like these really are in helping save lives through awareness. All the tests were carried out by Cancer Testing South who are based in Woking. Many thanks to former Puttenham Men’s Captain Terry Smith who was the driving force behind getting this day arranged.
