Congratulations to Rosie Maguire of Woking Golf Club, who was crowned Surrey Women’s 2025 County Champion at the end of an exciting tournament which took place over the 125th anniversary of Surrey Women’s Golf.

The County Championship started on Friday 11th April, a date which also marked the 125th birthday of the organisation which represents all women golfers at clubs in Surrey.  The tournament commenced with a 36-hole qualifying stroke play competition.  Official starter, Surrey Women’s Golf President Ann Gems, got the action underway with defending champion Herry Ji of Burhill first to tee off.  Thirty-three women took part on Friday, from which the top 16 qualified for the weekend match play knockout.

Following two knockout rounds on Saturday in which there were some surprise results, the Sunday morning semi-final line up saw Rosie Maguire take on the defending champion Herry Ji.  Both players put on a fantastic display of golf and were under par when Rosie claimed victory on the 17th hole.  In the other semi-final, Issy Simpson of Roehampton played impressive golf to overcome Walton Heath’s Julia Brook.

In the final, Rosie beat off the challenge of Issy Simpson with some powerful ball striking and accurate approach play. She claimed the title of County Champion at the end of three days of fantastic golf on the famous Old Course at Burhill Golf Club.

County Captain, Katrina Davis, commented: ‘We are delighted to have Rosie as Surrey Women’s 2025 County Champion.  She played amazing golf and we are looking forward to having her as part of our County team.

‘We have watched some impressive golf over the three days of the Championship and I would like to congratulate all who took part, particularly those who qualified for the weekend knockout.  Several will join Rosie in the Surrey County team, which will defend the County Champions title at South Region County Match Week at Mill Hill Golf Club in Jun.

‘It was a bonus that the 125th Anniversary of the founding of Surrey Women’s Golf coincided with this year’s County Championship.  We are very proud to have been supporting women’s and girls’ golf in Surrey for 125 years.  Everyone enjoyed celebrating our big birthday, particularly the delicious birthday cake!’
